Radio personality Tony Jamison of WFMV 95.3 FM will serve as the emcee for the festivities. Celebrity guests will include former National Teacher of the Year and award-winning author Sharon Draper; author and illustrator Floyd Cooper; and Sanford Greene, an illustrator for Marvel Comics and a Benedict College professor. In addition to meeting local and national authors, visitors will be treated to storytelling, distribution of free books, a literacy parade and other delights.

This year’s event will have a special emphasis on how technology impacts reading and literacy. District schools will have digital displays showing reading initiatives. Visitors are asked to bring their iPads, tablets, Smartphones and other devices to learn how they can access Richland Library’s eBooks, magazines, free music and other digital resources. Richland Library also will have its Play Freely bus on display and will help Richland County residents apply for a library card. State and local beauty queens will host a personal success and goal-setting session. Artist Sanford Greene will present a special session to graphic art enthusiasts. Students are encouraged to bring samples of their art work for feedback by Greene, who will also discuss career opportunities and training options. A limited number of his books will be available to participants who attend this session.
